Tell us the institution, campus, appointment type, date and language. Distinguish consultation interpretation from registration accompaniment, document translation and later follow-up. Ask about time on site and waiting or overtime arrangements.
Prepare your questions
- Write the main concerns you want the clinician to address.
- Ask which earlier reports or images the provider needs.
- Bring or securely share the original documents requested, rather than an unverified summary alone.
- Say if a companion will join and how you want communication handled.
During the discussion
Address questions to the clinician, pause for interpretation and ask for clarification when needed. The interpreter conveys information; clinical advice, diagnoses, consent discussions and treatment decisions belong to the provider.
Before leaving
Confirm that you understand the provider's next steps and how to obtain documents or further answers. Ask which written translations or later conversations require a separate support request.
